Deferral of Military Service

Please consider that the majority of the information regarding the Military and Civilian Service is either in German or French and Italian.

At UZH, the advisory centers of the dean's offices are responsible for reviewing and confirming any request for deferrals. The website of the Swiss army has details on the conditions and guidelines that apply to students who want to defer their military service. Any such request must be confirmed in writing by the advisory center of UZH. Requests for reconsideration must be confirmed by the Verbindungsstelle Armee – Hochschulen (the liaison office for military service and higher education institutions) (bottom of page 4 of the request).

If you have any further questions about military service, please contact the Verbindungsstelle Armee – Hochschulen (the liaison office for military service and higher education institutions) of the Military Academy at ETH Zurich. While this office advises students about their military service in general, the offices of the Military Academy are responsible for university students in the Zurich area.

Students who are finishing recruit school may experience scheduling conflicts when they begin their studies. You can read more about the options in this connection on the website of the army. Please also consult the information sheet provided by the army about how to coordinate civilian and military training. Please note: This information sheet is valid only until the end of 2017 and does not yet include changes in connection with the further development of the armed forces.
