Student Advisory Services

Mission Statement

Happy students in the right course of study

Student Advisory Services (SAS) at the University of Zurich (UZH) serves as a central point of contact for questions about choosing a course of study and provides a range of services to help students successfully integrate into academic and social life at UZH. We foster talents and student potential at UZH, increase students’ motivation for graduating and reduce the number of dropouts among already matriculated students.

Choosing a course of study
Student Advisory Services accompanies students on their journey to a fulfilling course of study. By providing individual, low-threshold advising and coaching formats along with the right information, we support students when choosing a study program, a suitable combination of study programs or when choosing a new path. We aim to provide more clarity and self-determination in the decision-making process. We are known as a central point of contact for questions around choosing a study program, both inside and outside UZH.
The target group for our services includes prospective students as well as students who are already enrolled in Bachelor’s and Master’s programs at UZH.

Integration
Student Advisory Services helps ensure that students are happy in their course of study. We are the project leaders for student orientation and offer other kinds of individual and group support, which helps students transition into higher education and become acquainted with the ways of thinking, learning and working required in an academic environment. We also foster social interaction and a feeling of belonging across the different faculties and departments, thereby contributing to a climate of intellectual openness and transdisciplinarity. The target group is all Bachelor’s and Master’s students starting their studies (in the first one or two semesters of their programs).

Promoting diversity and fostering potential
Student Advisory Services promotes diversity and fosters potential in the student body. By establishing and expanding various formats to support students (individual coaching, information preparation, video tutorials and workshops), we meet the demands posed by the growing diversity of UZH’s students and prospective students and foster the diverse potential at UZH.
Target groups include students pursuing dual careers (as high performance athletes), students pursuing a second educational path while working or being a caretaker, and students who are the first in their family to pursue a university education.

Networking
Student Advisory Services undertakes strategic activities to strengthen its network of disseminators, such as academic advisors and dean’s office staff, and is engaged in lively exchange with academic advisors from other universities, the BIZ and those who work as freelancers (AGAB).
