Student Advisory Services

For Academic Advisors

The academic advisor network ensures that there is an effective dialog among colleagues, and it develops and assures quality in the advisory centers of the faculties of the University of Zurich. The network studies the work of academic advisors and contributes to knowledge transfer and to becoming more effective in providing students with good consultations.

E-mail distribution list

We will inform you regularly by e-mail about current events and topics. Are you also interested? If so, we look forward to hearing from you.

Professional associations

We are an active member in the following professional associations for university advisory services: Vereinigung der Fachleute für Beratung und Information im Mittel- und Hochschulbereich (AGAB) and Pendant der Gesellschaft für Information und Beratung (GIBeT), a German organization. Various advisory services are part of these organizations, and they put on meetings and organize workgroups. UZH is a collective member of AGAB. This means that our partners at the University can take part in AGAB events at member prices. You can sign up for events directly at AGAB. If you have any further questions, we would be happy to help.

Continuous Events

Regular encounters offer academic advisors the opportunity to discuss their work with colleagues and to explore limitations and individual approaches to counseling. We would like to provide a platform for exchanging ideas and invite contributors from internal and external offices to speak about specific topics.

The topics of the events are meant to address the needs of academic advisors. Do you have a topic to share? If so, we look forward to hearing from you.

We will announce the date of the next event by email as soon as it is known. Would like to receive this information in good time? Please write to us so that we can ensure that your address is on the e-mail list.

Working Groups

Working groups are sometimes established at AGAB’s regular events. These groups are dedicated to working on and doing a deep dive into specific issues.

Working group for career prospects
The career prospects working group connects academic advisors and other interested parties from UZH with topics about career engagement and preparing students for the working world.

Regular workshops serve as a platform for:

  • creating formats that prepare students to enter the working world
  • sharing good practices at UZH and with other universities
  • providing qualifications for working group members

The descriptions of good practices should be collected and made available to members.

The career prospects working group is organized and led by Career Services. Would you like to participate? Roger Gfrörer, Director of Career Services, is looking forward to receiving your message or phone call (044 634 21 53).

Networking Internally and Externally

Student Advisory Services is in touch regularly with Student Services and the Offices of Student Affairs of the various faculties at the University of Zurich, and also with the service units of Central Services and the cantonal academic advisory offices. We would be glad to refer any academic advisor with a concern to a suitable contact, to arrange for an exchange of ideas, or include the topic in the agenda of a meeting.
